Birmingham’s People : Exhibition

Birmingham Photospace ran Birmingham’s People at Birmingham ArtsFest on the 13th and 14th September 2009.

Inspired by the likes of Richard Avedon’s The Family and Obama’s People, we wanted to take a look at Birmingham’s people and how they see each other. We invited festival goers to come in, have their portraits taken by our photographers Matt Murtagh and Jennifer Peel. Videographers also recorded their views on the Photospace project and the state of the arts in Birmingham.

Birmingham Photospace had a marquee just off Victoria Square and some room in Paradise Forum where we created a temporary exhibition of portraits. Calumet kindly agreed to support us during the weekend.

Birmingham’s People is currently being exhibited at the Drum Arts Centre in Aston. It will run from 7th December 2009 until the 29th January 2010

We had a terrific Private View, complete with Q&A with one of our photographers, several of our sitters and even a poem from one our sitters. Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the evening with us.

If you  would like to donate some money to help us develop the project, please visit our supporters page. And if you’ve got any questions, email us at hello@birminghamphotospace.co.uk.
