Birmingham's people

So, the exhibition has settled in nicely in its new home, at Bryant Priest Newman, and we’re busy planning on our events for 2010. It seems like a good time to show you the amazing and wonderful photos our friend Ian James took of the private view at The Drum.

For a group who got together following a post on a Flickr messageboard, it seemed strange that we didn’t have a Flickr account of our own, so we’ve set one up, and you can see Ian’s photos there. There are some wonderful shots in the collection- so many, many thanks to Ian who came along as a volunteer to record the night. As ever, we’re inspired by the talent and generosity of people in the city – makes us even keener to get our permanent space for photographers!

Birmingham’s People Has A New Home

Category: Birmingham,birmingham's people,exhibitionEmma Jones @ 16:04

We’re very pleased to announce that our Birmingham’s People exhibition has moved to a new venue.

Birmingham's People at 3 Mary Street 3 Mary Street, in the Jewellery Quarter, is the home of architects Bryant Priest Newman, who kindly offered us the space after they heard that the exhibition was nearing the end of its time at the Drum.

And what a space it is! The Practice covers three floors, two of which now house parts of the exhibition. Various ‘Birmingham’s People’ now look over BPN’s meeting room, reception area and working offices.

Practice Manager Lorna Parsons explains on the BPN blog: “We’re a practice focussed on people and how communities influence the design of buildings and spaces. We feel it’s important to involve people in the whole design process so our approach is collaborative, focussed on creating communities and working with existing ones. Perhaps it is for that reason we are rather taken with Birmingham’s People.”

And we’ve found it really interesting to see the Birmingham’s People exhibition in a more intimate venue. Even if you have already seen the exhibition when it was up at the Drum, we’d urge you to go and have a look at how it fits into a working space. Just give Bryant Priest Newman a call on 0121 233 1818 to arrange a visit in office hours.

We’re also hoping to hold a Private View over the next couple of weeks – watch this space.
